Transporting Safety Matches

The overland transportation of safety matches is covered by a packing exception, found at 49 CFR 173.186(c). The exception states that matches shipped in packages not exceeding 23Kg (50 lbs) gross weight are not subject to any other requirement (except marking) of the subchapter (SUBCHAPTER C-THE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS REGULATIONS). Thus, matches do not require placards for overland transportation.

Packaging Specifications

Standard Book Match packing is 2000 books/case. The average case weight is 18#. Each standard packed case is 1.00 cu ft. The Ti-Hi pattern is 17 x 5(or customer request). We use Grade A/#1 Pallets.
