Artwork Guidelines

Digital Art

We request that all matchbook art be submitted to us via computer disk (either MAC or PC) on our supplied template and using only Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia FreeHand, or Adobe Photo Shop graphics programs.

Please include all fonts with each file and accompany each disk with a color print out of its content.

All digital art is to be submitted in spot (solid) color. If halftones are required, please indicate desired dot values and we will provide the screen conversions.

Mechanical Art

In the unlikely event that digital art files cannot be made available, we can work with mechanical art. Please be sure that all elements are to size and fitted to our template and are in black & white and camera ready form.

Art composed on film (positive or negative) can also be used, if necessary. Again, be sure that the layout is fitted to our template, and also, that images and film are clean and clear of any extraneous defects or exposures.

Art Charges

The one-time charge per layout is $150 per color. The costs associated with the artwork process covers are preparation, film and plates.

Book Match Design Approval Procedure and Pre-Press Charges

Design Pre-approval

Once we have reviewed properly submitted digital art, a match cover layout in PDF file format is generated and emailed to the customer for pre-approval. This digital image provides the customer an overall view of their requested book match cover design.

Lead-time from initial receipt of digital art: Seven to 10 days, if recommended guidelines are followed. (Any changes to graphics, copy or positioning should be addressed at this stage; if necessary, revised PDFs will be provided for further customer review and approval.)

Final Proof Approval

Upon our receipt of design pre-approval, a live press proof can be scheduled. However, a hard copy digital color proof can be provided at this stage, if an actual printed press sample is not required. Proofs are sent via UPS next day for final signed and dated customer approval.

Lead-time from receipt of pre-approval: Seven to 14 days, depending upon customer's preference in this final proof approval process.

Finished Product Availability

Lead-time for order delivery: Three weeks from receipt of final signed and dated approval. Please contact Customer Service to place your order.

Art Charges

There is a onetime pre-press charge of $150.00 per color. This cost covers art preparation, film and plates.

Significant changes during any art design process will impact time period.

30-Stick Book Match Art Guidelines

• Match cover layout at 100% size = 4.25" length x 2.0" width.
• Print and die registration targets must appear on each separate color.
• All graphics and copy must be within the designated image areas, as defined by the noted broken lines.
• Only common colors may bleed beyond the broken lines. Non-common colors must be cropped to the designated image area panels, on all four sides of the cover, as noted.
• The "Saddle" panel may be used as image area. Be sure that all copy and graphic elements within this panel are clear of the noted broken lines.
• Slugline identification and "Close Cover …" copy must be located as shown.
• Minimum type size for final layout art is 5 point Helvetica regular, or equivalent.
• Minimum line/rule size for final layout art is 1 (one) point
